The Statue of Dacian king Decebalus (40-meter high) is the tallest rock sculpture in Europe. It is located on the Danube, near the city of Orşova.
It took about 10 years to finish it and cost over a million dollars. It’s made after the idea of Iosif Constantin Drăgan businessman and historian. This motivates the inscription under it “DECEBALUS REX – DRAGAN FECIT” (“King Decebal – Made by Drăgan”).
We recommend a boat trip on the Danube. You will see the beauty of the lands and will be able to take special photos of the statue. We also recommend to drive to the other statue,Tabula Traiana, that is in front of Decebalus statue, on the Serbian land. It’s a memorial plaque that commemorates the victories of the Roman Empire over the Dacian (year 105).
